In the Japanese fishing village of Taiji, fishermen are rounding up and slaughtering hundreds and even thousands of dolphins right now.
Japan kills over 20,000 dolphins and small whales annually, most of which wind up in meat markets. The dirty secret of the slaughter, however, is that the
international aquarium industry subsidizes these massacres by paying upwards of
US$45,000 for prime live specimens for aquariums, dolphin-shows and swim-with-dolphins programs. A dead dolphin sells for about US$600 on the market for meat.
Fishermen attract the dolphins by sounding metal rods beneath the water surface interferes with the dolphins' sonar. Once disorientated and enclosed within the net, dolphins panicked. Then fishermen would injure some of the dolphins with spear thrust or knife slash. Since dolphins nv abandon wounded family members. The dolphins cried as the fishermen slashed them with hooks and knives and the lagoon filled with their blood.
It takes a dolphin up to six minutes to die, and they cry the entire time, with their eyes wide open. The dolphins fought for their lives, even as their guts were ripped from their bellies and blood gushed out of their blowholes. But their screams had no effect on the trainers. Some of the dolphins were even alive when dragged to the killing lagoon.
These dolphin massacres must stop. They are inherently brutal and cruel. They've done nothing wrong to deserve this. I really don't understand how some human beings are so heartless and brutal to do such acts. They kill without blinking an eye and still can rejoyce and live peacefully after all these.
This link shows the process of how they lure the dolphins and kill them subsequently. I cried after watching it cause the scene was too unbearable.
